Description: Students will explore the diverse voices and perspectives of minorities in literature while honing their writing and analytical skills. Units will focus on the perspectives of female, African American, Latino, LGBTQ, and other writers who have historically struggled to find a place in mainstream literature and the academic canon. In addition to developing their reading and writing skills, students will have the opportunity to consider and discuss issues such as civil rights, the challenges and rewards of living in a diverse community, and the exclusion of minority voices in literature and in society.
